Mood Boards - HOALIE

WEAPONS
This is the mood board I have created for the possible weapons for the clown could use in the trailer.

Every killer in a horror movie will have a notorious weapon which is memorable to the audience and will be associated with him. Here are the possible weapons we could use for the trailer, it involves a grungy and rusty metal tool that is very frightening. We wanted to use an everyday tool so that it looks more realistic and have a possibility of it happening in real life so it gives the audience a more frightening experience.

VICTIM
This is a mood board I have created for the victim of what she will wear and how she is represented in our film trailer.
Here are a few samples of what we imagine our victim to look like and wear. As a common convention of horror films, the main girl is usually the one who doesn't drink, take drugs or have sex, the characters that actually do these things are the one that gets killed my the killer first. The main girl is the one that survives until the end who escapes from the killer or kills him, but the killer always mysteriously survives.

The main girl is usually a white female in horror films. So we have also decided to use a white teenage female for our teaser trailer. We want to make her look like a normal teenage girl so we are going to have her wear causal clothes such as plain jeans and a plain top/vest.

KLOWNS
This is a mood board I have created for the ideas we have of what the clown could look like in our film trailer.

Here is a mood board of the various type of clown styles we could use for our clown. After looking at them, we have decided to use make-up for our clown as it gives off a scarier feeling. Using a mask is too typical for horror films, film such as Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, Scream and Friday the 13th all use masks for the killer. We feel that by using make-up for our clown it would make our killer different from the others and the fact that there isn't much clowns used as a killer in horror films, ours will stand out.

Film Title Response - HOALIE

I have asked a sample of people to read the film treatment and look at the 14 different fonts I have chosen then choose the font that they thought would suit the film title the best.

Above are screenshots of the conversation i had with 4 people. 1 had chosen number 3, 1 had chosen number 11 and 2 had chosen number 13. The people who chose number 13 thought that it fitted well with the theme of the film storyline.

Film Title - HOALIE

I have done some research into different fonts already used for horror films and it gave me inspiration for designing our own film title. I went on a font website (www.dafont.com) and found various possible fonts we could use.

01. 28 Days Later
02. Aracnoide
03. Arvigo
04. Dark Flame
05. The Dark Ages
06. Dark Theater
07. Gogozombie
08. Necropsy
09. Frankie
10. A Lolita Scorned
11. October Crow
12. Horror
13.Monster Child
14. Were Beast

I have narrowed it down to 14 different fonts that we think is a possibility for using in our teaser trailer. Now we have to survey it with some people and see what is the most popular.

Costume & Props - REBECCA

Costume, make-up and props.

Victim
Doing some research in conventions of horror films the victim are usually dressed in every day ordinary clothes. Our victim will be lost in the woods so she will most likely to be following this convention. The victim will also be dragged around a lot in the woods so the clothing will need to be appropriate for this and we need to think of all aspects before we decide on what she will be wearing.

The images here are for the film Scream and Halloween .

All three women here are the victims in the film and as you can see they are wearing very simplistic clothing. They are wearing every day clothes such as vests, t-shirt or jumpers and a pair of jeans. This is most likely to be the way we are aiming for our victim to look.

we discussed between the group what we wanted our victim to look like. some suggested a white simple dress but most wanted to stick to the everyday clothing of a top and jeans, so this is what we are most likely to aim for.

The victim will have very natural like simple make-up. a small amount of eye make up and foundation. She will however have cuts, grazes and bruises which we will have to create with make-up. we did test make up already and the make-up artist practiced doing the make-up on the victim this is shown in a separate post.

The Killer
We are aiming for our killer to be hidden behind a mask of a clown.
we first looked at the idea of doing the full on clown look clown look with face paint colorful dungarees the inspiration coming from the film IT and the joker from batman, similar to the images below.

However we thought maybe this is a little to much and it might not be
taken seriously.
we were aiming of a dark mysterious clown like figure, so we then thought of making our killer seem more serious possibly wearing baggy trousers, workmen boots and a more scary make up maybe consisting of more black. At the moment though we are still debating weather do do a clown mask or simply to do the clown make up ourselves.
we will have to take in both the pros and cons of each. Make up will be time consuming and possibly quite expensive to get the right sort of make up, however by doing it ourselves we are more likely to achieve the exact style we want.  The advantages with a mask would be that it will be much quicker and cheaper . we will have to research into this and visit costumes shops and look online for a best possible outcome.

Inspirations for clown makeup

I researched on you tube for some scary clown makeup tutorials however it was hard to find some good ones. Most of them were girls doing the tutorials  which wasn't very helpful as our killer is a guy. Also a lot of the make up was a bit to dramatic.

The Joker from 'The Dark Night' has been our biggest influence. He still holds the silly clown theme yet he still has a dark scary look about him. his make up is messy and his her is scruffy. This look is certainly something we would be aiming for but with a more serial killer evilness about him.

These are possible workmen boots we have been looking at.

Props
Our killer will of course have a weapon . this as well as the clown face will be the trademarks of the killer.
The two possible weapons at the moment are a hammer or baseball bat

We are aiming to create a slasher horror Film trailer so we want to use brutal, harmful weapons to give the impression straight away this is a violent film and we feel that either a hammer or a bat is both brutal . Unlike guns and knifes which offer a quick and often clean death hammers and bats are more brutal and gruesome creating creating lots of blood and deformity.

After discussion we are most likely to us the hammer as it does put across a more serious approach.

Logo - HOALIE

This is the logo we have created for our production team. Since we are doing a horror genre we have decided to chosen to base it around the theme of horror. I have chosen to have a dark grungy background for the logo, with the "Prototype" in gray and "Productions" in blood red. There is also a knife slashing through the middle 'O' in prototype with blood dripping down from it giving it a frighting feel. there is also a splatter of blood going near the top left of the logo showing the audience that perhaps someone, a mystery person, is the one who slashed the logo. The blood dripping from the 'O' is going down to the word productions as if the word was created by the blood of the 'O'.

Influences - JASON

JOKER
Another influence is the iconic character from the hit film the dark knight; 'The Joker'. He wears make up like a clown and pretty much made clowns cool. One reason why I went for the clown idea is because if you ask people what they are scared of along with spiders and ghosts, clowns would be a popular choice.

TWISTED METAL

One of our influences was a playstation game called Twisted Metal which has an image of a evil clown as its iconic image.
It gave us the idea of an evil clown as the main protagonist in our film idea. It was also quite original as to have a slasher film with a clown/s as the killer.
It looks very interesting and intriguing and different to most trailer ideas people have.

REC

Rec was an influence for the last shot where we are having our victim dragged away. It looks slightly the same as the last scene in Rec. When i was planning out each shot i thought of a good last shot to have the victim dragged away, i thought straight away about the film and kept the idea.

Treatment - BERRY

Treatment
Working title: KLOWNS
Production team name: PROTO-TYPE PRODUCTIONS
Format: Digital Video
Genre: Horror/Slasher
Length: 52 Seconds
Synopsis:
The protagonist is a male ‘klown’ who is stalking young people and killing them. The ‘klown’ is similar to the famous joker, conniving and evil. He chases a young female with the intentions of killing her, she is caught and he drags her through the wilderness/woods.
Intended Audience: Our intended audience is likely to be between the ages of 15-24. The age cannot be any lower because the genre of our trailer is slasher and the scenes of violence and gore would be unsuitable for a younger audience. Based upon my research ages 15-24 is the age group that takes the most interest in horror. This is because the younger audience can relate to the films as the majority of horror films include younger people and this is also because younger people have more of an imagination and are proven to be more fearful.
What we intend to do?
To piece our trailer we intend to film the ‘wilderness’ scene as we believe it would be most effective. This will take place in the woods where there will be quick shots of the ‘klown’ and the young girl being dragged off. The ‘klowns’ face will remain unrevealed to create suspense and produce fear.
How will we do it?
We will do this by creating plans for everything from costume to storyboard to timing which will lead us to be organised and increase the chances of success of our trailer.
Why it is worth doing?
Our idea is worth doing because it is original, rare and interesting. There are more supernatural horror films in the market and less slasher. We want it bring something old to the market but make it new, different and interesting. Ours is also worth doing because it is not expensive but can yet make a big profit.
