Costume & Props - REBECCA

Costume, make-up and props.

Victim
Doing some research in conventions of horror films the victim are usually dressed in every day ordinary clothes. Our victim will be lost in the woods so she will most likely to be following this convention. The victim will also be dragged around a lot in the woods so the clothing will need to be appropriate for this and we need to think of all aspects before we decide on what she will be wearing.

The images here are for the film Scream and Halloween .

All three women here are the victims in the film and as you can see they are wearing very simplistic clothing. They are wearing every day clothes such as vests, t-shirt or jumpers and a pair of jeans. This is most likely to be the way we are aiming for our victim to look.

we discussed between the group what we wanted our victim to look like. some suggested a white simple dress but most wanted to stick to the everyday clothing of a top and jeans, so this is what we are most likely to aim for.

The victim will have very natural like simple make-up. a small amount of eye make up and foundation. She will however have cuts, grazes and bruises which we will have to create with make-up. we did test make up already and the make-up artist practiced doing the make-up on the victim this is shown in a separate post.

The Killer
We are aiming for our killer to be hidden behind a mask of a clown.
we first looked at the idea of doing the full on clown look clown look with face paint colorful dungarees the inspiration coming from the film IT and the joker from batman, similar to the images below.

However we thought maybe this is a little to much and it might not be
taken seriously.
we were aiming of a dark mysterious clown like figure, so we then thought of making our killer seem more serious possibly wearing baggy trousers, workmen boots and a more scary make up maybe consisting of more black. At the moment though we are still debating weather do do a clown mask or simply to do the clown make up ourselves.
we will have to take in both the pros and cons of each. Make up will be time consuming and possibly quite expensive to get the right sort of make up, however by doing it ourselves we are more likely to achieve the exact style we want.  The advantages with a mask would be that it will be much quicker and cheaper . we will have to research into this and visit costumes shops and look online for a best possible outcome.

Inspirations for clown makeup

I researched on you tube for some scary clown makeup tutorials however it was hard to find some good ones. Most of them were girls doing the tutorials  which wasn't very helpful as our killer is a guy. Also a lot of the make up was a bit to dramatic.

The Joker from 'The Dark Night' has been our biggest influence. He still holds the silly clown theme yet he still has a dark scary look about him. his make up is messy and his her is scruffy. This look is certainly something we would be aiming for but with a more serial killer evilness about him.

These are possible workmen boots we have been looking at.

Props
Our killer will of course have a weapon . this as well as the clown face will be the trademarks of the killer.
The two possible weapons at the moment are a hammer or baseball bat

We are aiming to create a slasher horror Film trailer so we want to use brutal, harmful weapons to give the impression straight away this is a violent film and we feel that either a hammer or a bat is both brutal . Unlike guns and knifes which offer a quick and often clean death hammers and bats are more brutal and gruesome creating creating lots of blood and deformity.

After discussion we are most likely to us the hammer as it does put across a more serious approach.
